In times of trouble: PRAY

I am asking you dear blog readers to please PRAY for my fellow Sorsogeños who are currently suffering from ash fall and volcanic eruptions from Mt. Bulusan. The weather is also unpredictable and there are times that heavy rains are falling along with the ash fall. Most of towns residents near Mt. Bulusan are already worrisome of lahar. It's been months since the eruption of Mt. Bulusan for this year and so far it is more active this days than in the past.

This time where nature is raging, we only have God to hang on to, so please help me pray for their safety and may the Mt. Bulusan lay low now. There are also news that a resident died due to asthmatic attacks that were triggered by the ash fall.

I hope residents near the area have really good gas masks to protect them from ash fall or might as well they'd be lucky enough to have any damp fabric protect their health.

Here's a news from GMAnews.TV:

Phivolcs: Mt. Bulusan spews ash again Sunday morning

(Updated 11:27 a.m.) Mount Bulusan, the volcano in Sorsogon, spewed ash as high as two kilometers from the summit Sunday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

The ash explosion occurred at 7:22 a.m. and the ash column reached two kilometers above the crater rim and drifted southwest, according Phivolcs' Sunday bulletin.

"The ash ejection was accompanied by a rumbling sound and reflected as an explosion-type earthquake with duration of nine minutes and thirty seconds. Prior to the ash ejection, the Bulusan seismic network detected a total of 12 volcanic earthquakes," it said.

In an interview on dzBB radio, Phivolcs supervising science research specialist July Sabit said that the magma in the volcano is not rising to the surface yet.

Residents located in the northwest and southwest sectors of the volcano were reminded to take precautions against ashfalls.

Radio dzBB quoted Sabit as advising residents near the volcano to use gas masks to protect themselves from the ash.

Phivolcs added that the residents near valleys and river or stream channels should be watchful against sediment-laden stream flows and lahars because ash and other loose volcanic materials may be re-mobilized during heavy and prolonged rainfall.

For his part, Phivolcs volcanologist Ed Laguerta said rains in recent days may trigger lahar flows in Irosin town.

"It may be advisable for residents to leave their homes after about 30 minutes of heavy rains," he said. http://www.gmanews.tv/story/205308/phivolcs-to-sorsogon-residents-avoid-danger-zone-around-bulusan

What would Ninoy Aquino and Lean Alejandro do?

Three days ago Ninoy Aquino's assassination was remembered and in 26 days Lean Alejandro's death will be remembered.

They were the icons for Nationalistic ideologies and Democratic Struggle. Even at their young age, they served the Filipino people with utmost commitment to fight against Martial Law. Two decades had passed and many great political leaders had died in the line of fire, in the struggle to achieve a better future for our dear country, yet we are faced again with this kind of struggle.

The things that Ninoy and Lean had fought for had never been destroyed and were just stunted for the past years. Ninoy and Lean had hoped for a better governance and sided with the Filipino people in the times of threats. They had never been afraid to fight for what they believe which is good for the great number of Filipino people.

These kinds of people are what we need today. They are the epitome of how youth should think and act. A youth can always make a change. We the youth can always make a difference. In the times were most of the people felt like giving up, we the Youth should rise and speak our minds. To let our fellow people know that this is the time that we must unite for one goal.

If Ninoy Aquino and Lean Alejandro are alive I know they will call for the people to wake up. Speak and never be apathetic with our present political situation. They had become my idol and I will do my best to make them proud of today’s youth. Make them feel that their lives are not wasted but had been an inspiration to the people in guarding the values of the youth and the true nature of democracy.

I was sickened by the things how politics and politicians do today. Sure there were a few who fight for the great number of people. There are those who fight for the true meaning of being a Filipino and politics.

Le Cirque dinner is just a tip of the iceberg; corruption is a deep rooted problem that we should address. We must act as the guards against enormous stealing and rape in our country done by those in power. I call on the youth to know more and be aware of the true situation of our country. I can never lose hope with Philippines for I know; this is the only country I will call HOME.

Together with my fellow members of Kabataan Kontra Kahirapan (KKK) or Youth Against Poverty, were having a campaign in Facebook called “Be a Lean Campaign”. To learn more about our youth organization you can visit http://www.kabataankontrakahirapan.org and you can be the youth that this country need. YOUth take the Lead!

Philippine Democracy Icon Died but spirit will live on

August 1 3:18am Former President Cory Aquino died.

She died but will always remain in our hearts. I cannot imagine life without democracy. I for one is not a fan of authoritarian rule. I can follow rules of course but I am not at ease following them. In due time, I will begin to ask what are these rules for?

She had been a state's woman, heard when she talks, an empowered woman indeed. I liked how she talks, she speaks with dignity. She had undergone so many hardships and yet, she hold on to God.

Maybe a part of me wanted to be her. A loving mother and daughter, a supportive sister, a leader.

She is an icon, simple, dignified and will always remain the beacon of Philippine democracy.

As my part I changed my fb profile picture to yellow ribbon. I wept and as I wept for her passing, part of me had seen the path of which I had to support and walk on. Until the end it is DEMOCRACY!

August 5, Wednesday is a holiday for her funeral. I dunno if we can go to her funeral if not I will just watch the monitoring here at the office or at the house if we don't have office, which I doubt...lol:))

GMA's SONA more of ranting and false statements

Press Statement Ref: Charity Sicad
July 28, 2009

Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo had upset the Filipino once again. In her ninth State of the Nation Address yesterday, Mrs. Arroyo rated herself an A+ as a "working president" despite data that showed worsening poverty and hunger, high unemployment rate and dramatic drop outs of students.

As of press time, Social Weather Stations released the 2nd Quarter Hunger survey which stated that involuntary hunger has risen 'to 20.3% or an estimated 3.7 million families, from 15.5% or an estimated 2.9 million families in the previous quarter.'

"We are very much worried about her saying that the Goal 2 of the MDGs (Millennium Development Goals) in providing universal access to basic education is impossible to reach by its deadline in 2015. This statement of Mrs.Arroyo conveyed a message that the Filipino people should not hope for a better future," said Claudine Claridad, Chairperson of Kabataan Kontra Kahirapan.

Mrs. Arroyo's admittance on the impossibility of MDG 2 only confirms that indeed education has not been the priority of the Arroyo administration. The budget allocation for basic education under her term has still not met its international standard of six percent (6%) of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) or 20 percent (20%) of the national budget.

"With this, what do we expect from Mrs. Arroyo? We have lost so much in terms of providing education to children and youth," continued Claridad.

"This year's SONA further proves Mrs. Arroyo's determination to cover up her lies, underachievements, scandals and treachery to the Filipino people. We condemn her act as if she thinks we can still be fooled by her last SONA," said KKK Spokesperson Luis Granados.

"We were expecting her to discuss what our country's true state of the nation and how she will address these problems before she ends her term in 2010," added Granados.

"We think that this is the time for the youth to act and be critical of GMA's next steps. We should maintain militant against moves that will hide her plots to remain in power," said Claridad.

Despite the pour of heavy rain, Kabataan Kontra Kahirapan march from the University of the Philippines in Diliman to Ever Gotesco in Commonwealth Ave. to mark Arroyo's last SONA. #

There is a Hacker on the LOOSE!!!...beware!

*This is a re-post from my friend's blog. Good thing I am not logged last night...whew!..:)

Beware people, there is a hacker on the loose. Their modus operandi, use your friends previously hacked e-mail address. In my case, they used my college friend email address "joanalyn.delacruz", and now they are using my e-mail "rjcarpio24" to hack other people on my network.

Please if ever your are on the contact list of above mail addresses, block it immediately as you might be the next victim.

How to know that they are hackers:
1. You will easily identify that the person is a hacker if the way he/she talk is different from the usual person you talked with.
2. He/She will tell you: "I'm uploading pics please check", the file name he/she will send you is "yahoo.html" don't try to save it. It will lead you to YAHOO sign-in page. Once you enter your username and password, your dead. They already have an access to your email. In few seconds they will tell you that they have a control to your e-mail and your ym will just sign out and will scam your contacts doing same procedure.

Below is the sample of chat exchange my friend logged during her conversation with the hacker:

One of my friend was also hacked using my email. The hacker asked his family to send him PHP5000.00 worth of globe load and his sister-in-law did as my friend did not inform them immediately.

Please be vigilant. Let us stop this net burglar. Once your e-mail address was hacked, tell immediately your family and friends to make them aware and change your other account's mail notification.

PLEASE REPOSE THIS IF YOU THINK IT IS USEFUL TO YOU AND YOUR FRIENDS.
